Job Description:


An international commercial banking client is actively seeking a passionate and inspiring Head of HR who has considerable generalist HR experience and is able to manage the HR function of South Africa. The role reports directly to the Country CEO with matrix reporting to the Global Head of HR.




  • Support the Country CEO in execution of the Bank’s strategy
  • Develop and implement the Country HR‘s strategy in line with the Bank’s strategy and business direction
  • Work closely with Global Head of HR and support the implementation of Group-approved initiatives
  • Liaise with other countries for knowledge sharing and promoting best practices
  • Develop and maintain strong partnership and shared accountability with all business units and functional heads by way of understanding their concerns and providing proper people solutions
  • Ensure that HR administration systems are fit for purpose, maintained appropriately in line with legal and best practices
  • Ensure compliance with local statutes, labor and tax laws/policies and implement changes as and when needed
  • Develop cost effective HR service delivery model ensuring efficiency and value addition for all HR initiatives
  • Formulate a robust talent acquisition framework coupled with good onboarding and orientation practices
  • Create and promote a transparent and effective performance management process
  • Develop and ensure that HR Policies & Procedures reflect complete alignment with the management’s perspective as well as Global HR, regulatory requirements and current best market practices
  • Ensure equity (both internal and external) for staff by providing a robust platform to conduct compensation surveys and devise a good rewards strategy
  • Design and update succession plans for key critical positions coupled with talent development programs for all high performing and high potential staff
  • Conduct periodical employee surveys to gather insights of work environment and in turn design employee interventions accordingly to address concern areas
  • Act as a sounding board for all staff relating to complaint handling, counseling, morale and motivation building
  • Maintain professional relations with relevant external stakeholders


Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • Min 8 – 10 years’ experience working in a similar position within South Africa (preferably with a commercial bank dealing in Trade Finance); should have experience of front office roles’ recruitment too.
  • At least 4 years at Senior HR Management Role
  • Banking background & experience working within banking is non-negotiable
  • Strong experience in recruiting front office (relationship managers/ credit analyst) roles
  • South African citizen
  • Strong educational background, with HR qualifications
  • Excellent verbal and written skills in English as well as in the local language
  • Well versed with all South African Statutory, Labor & Tax Laws
  • Knowledge of latest HR trends and practices, Knowledge of Banking Policies and Procedures, regulatory guidelines, and understanding of the business environment
  • Experience of working in multi-ethnic and multicultural environments; Local candidates will be preferred
  • Experience in dealing with various HR projects including Change Management and/or Transformation
  • Posses high accountability and reliability coupled with good leadership skills
  • High integrity, professionalism, transparency and displays respect for diversity and inclusion
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure
  • Passionate about HR and being the key driver to the business success
