Role Overview:

Our client seeks an experienced Optical Engineer to join their team in Cape Town. The incumbent will be responsible for design, implementation, verification and integration of optical systems and sub-systems, particularly fibre optics for radio astronomy applications.

Client Description:

Duties & Responsibilities (include but not limited to):

  • Leading a small team with a focus on fibre optics systems
  • Supporting existing systems as and when required
  • Designing, implementing and supporting optical networks
  • Providing project management support
  • Conducting optics and fibre research


 

Education & Experience Required:

  • Minimum education requirements: MSc or MEng in Electronics Engineering specialising in Fibre Optics
  • Minimum work experience required: Master's degree with 3 years' work experience or PhD in a related field
  • The ideal candidate will have the following competencies – Ability to:

    • display problem-solving skills
    • work independently as well as in a team environment
    • handle multiple tasks
    • work in remote locations when required
    • communicate effectively in English (both written and verbally)

  • Experience in:

    • using system engineering methods in complex projects
    • Opto-electronics

  • Knowledge of:

    • radio astronomy systems
