Tell us a little about yourself?

I am originally from Mossel Bay, a town along the Garden Route in South Africa.  I completed my Honours degree in Industrial Psychology at the University of Stellenbosch.  I moved to London for 2 years after graduation where I got introduced to recruitment.  I worked at a Boutique Asset Management recruitment firm in the City where we focused on the UK & European markets.  I joined CA Global’s Finance team in 2011.

Job title?

I am a Senior Executive Search Consultant & Headhunter, specialising in the Banking, Finance & Investment Markets.  I do headhunting & recruiting across the African continent & international markets focusing on the financial services industries.

Why choose to work at CA Global?

CA Global is really a great company to work for.  The environment is much different than a normal recruitment company, and staff really care about each other.  The company is also a market leader in recruitment in Africa – our skills & expertise are hard to match!

Academic background?

I’ve completed a Bpsych Degree from the University of Stellenbosch, with an Honours focusing on Industrial Psychology.  After obtaining my degree I did an additional year of studies where the focus was on Human Resources.  I am also a registered career counsellor at the HPCSA

Fun fact about yourself?

I like history & reading adventure novels.

Who is your role model and why?

No one in particular – I admire different aspects in different people.  Honesty, the ability to forgive, friendliness, helpfulness & respect for others are just some of the qualities that I appreciate in people.

Advice for clients/candidates?

Clients – Recruiters are there to assist you to grow your business with the best talent.  It helps a lot to know all the requirements & detail of a role upfront (salary that you can afford, industry you would like the ideal candidate to come from, important, non-negotiable requirements for role, etc).  This will help to save time and help narrow the search to find the right candidates quickly.

Good recruiters should have a good understanding of the market(s), and can also assist in giving you market information (i.e. salary brackets & other market trends), that you might not necessarily have knowledge of.  Treat them as a business partner – you will be surprised at how much you can learn & what they can mean for your business.

Candidates – I know that most of you don’t like recruiters.   Generally it is assumed that recruiters only work for themselves and do not care about the candidate.  Please bear with us – we really do get hundreds of CVs a day we have to go through.  If your profile is a strong match for a current position we are recruiting for, we will contact you (it is really in our best interest to do so!).  The best advice I can give is to make sure your CV explains your experience, and specifically your job responsibilities, in detail – this allows for a proper assessment & understanding of your profile.  Also don’t forget to include important information like telephone number, email address & qualifications (yes, it happens…!)

Which country within Africa do you think will be the next hot spot and why?

Ethiopia is showing a lot of potential after they opened their doors for foreign companies & investors.

What is your outlook within your industry over the next 5 years?

The Banking & Finance sector is gaining strength in Africa every day.  Financial Services companies are being innovative and trying to reach people in rural areas through mobile banking, agency banking and other product offerings.  With all the international interest & investments in Africa, the finance industry will definitely grow hand-in-hand with other industries.

CA Global is a big believer in Africa, why do YOU believe in Africa?

Africa has so much more to give than a lot of people realize.  We are a continent rich in natural resources, vibrant cultures, top academic institutions & some of the most successful companies.  There is still so much to explore & build in Africa.  And Africa is home – how can you not believe in home?!
