We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join our client as a Senior Financial Controller to lead financial, management and statutory reporting in a timely and accurate manner, while adding value to the business through partnering with all stakeholders to deliver insightful financial planning and analysis (FP&A) data in line with strategic objectives. Responsibilities:

  • End to end ownership of the control environment for the full cycle of the business with a focus on the complete enterprise risk matrix of the organisation

  • Developing and maintaining financial projections, forecasts and sensitivity analysis including detailed models in line with commercial strategies
  • Ownership of all budgeting processes and month on month variance analysis with detailed commentary of performance to drive cost efficiencies and identify opportunities
  • Perform all ad-hoc research as may be needed by the stakeholders
  • Working capital tracking and reporting on optimal balance sheet optimization including tracking all financial covenants of the organisation
  • Drive finance transformation with the Finance Director to improve synergy within the team and enhance collaboration with stakeholders in trade, commercial, operations, logistics, IT and corporate
  • Work with Finance Director to contribute to the bottom line through various structured trade finance opportunities
  • Provide thought leadership for their team with a focus on developing a best-in-class team

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • Experience within traded commodities, manufacturing or FMCG
  • Business English and German language skills (C1 German language) - essential
  • Big four experience in audit - ADVANTAGEOUS
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in finance and accounting, with the at least 3 years of senior leadership within a finance department ex audit(preferable)/statutory reporting & tax ESSENTIAL
  • Professional qualification e.g. ACCA/ CMA/ CIMA/ CPA or relevant equivalent with current membership - essential

Nature & Scope:

The role of the position holder will be to support the Head, Loan Remediation in managing a portfolio of sub and non-performing assets varying in size and complexity. Overall job responsibility is conducted in an independent atmosphere where strong financial, legal, credit transaction management, loan remediation, computer and general business skills are required. Responsibilities:

  • Manage an assigned portfolio of distressed credit facilities/ loans to minimize losses and maximize value of recoveries on sub and non-performing assets of the bank in line with set targets.
  • Define and recommend appropriate loan work-out strategies that reduce the Bank’s credit risk and maximize return.
  • Reschedule, restructure credit facilities including repayment terms, as well as develop strategies and plans to better secure collateral, collect and monitor agreed repayments.
  • Proactively engage with borrowers, other lenders, Facility Agents, and other departments in the Bank to obtain timely, relevant information and prepare written in-depth analysis and loan work-out strategies that protect the Bank and strengthen its credit risk profile.
  • Closely interact with key stakeholders in the Bank including Business Development, Credit Assessment, Credit Quality Assurance, and Operations for the timely resolution of sub and non-performing loans.
  • Ensure that non-performing loans are properly risk rated and that relevant Loan Remediation reports are prepared on time.
  • Ensure that comprehensive and up-to-date information, including customer credit information, correspondences, minutes, work-out memoranda, and such other relevant information is securely maintained and filed for all facilities in the Loan Remediation portfolio.
  • Ensure that the security package for all facilities in the Loan Remediation portfolio is perfected, with the most recent asset valuations as appropriate.
  • Adhere to the Bank’s RMPPs including the mandated collection processes.
  • Support the Finance Department with reliable and timely information necessary for informing the loan loss provisioning process of the Bank.
  • Work closely with legal counsel for the initiation and implementation of legal cases in the implementation of the loan acceleration and enforcement work out plans.
  • Attend and actively contribute to the relevant committees of the Bank including Pre-Assessment Committee, Business Committee, Credit Committee, and Loan Quality Committee to provide timely information necessary in strengthening the Bank’s credit assessment process.
  • Ensure that the Loan Remediation Unit has comprehensive and updated guidelines, policies and operating procedures that guide the operations of the unit in line with best practice.
  • Provide awareness and guidance to all stakeholders in the Bank with respect to Loan remediation policies, practices, and standards.
  • Develop reporting systems to manage, monitor and report activities related to the Loan Remediation portfolio.
  • Prepare timely and comprehensive Loan Remediation reports to Senior Management and the Board on a monthly and quarterly basis respectively.

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • First degree in a relevant field and a postgraduate degree in Law, Business Administration, Banking or Finance or other relevant field from a recognized University,
  • A professional qualification in Law, Banking or Debt Recovery is an added advantage,

  • The Senior Manager, Development & Agency Finance will be responsible for driving the Bank’s Exim-plus and other specialised finance partnership objectives. Sourcing of asset targeted funding from ECAs, DFIs and other specialised finance institutions, developing, structuring, and executing transactions under the ECA Loan Facilitation Program (ELFP) and other related specialised finance solutions are key components of this role. Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • Master’s degree in Finance, Banking, Economics, Management or a related field from a good university. A professional qualification in Finance, Banking, Risk Management, Insurance, Accounting or International Trade Finance or related disciplines may be accepted in lieu of the Master’s degree.  Knowledge of, and experience in officially supported credit and political risk insurance market and DFI operations is an added advantage.

Job Description:

Our client, a private equity fund with a global presence, is seeking a high-level Regional Credit Analyst to oversee the East African region portfolio of clients from a credit perspective. The primary responsibility is to ensure thorough understanding, ongoing monitoring, and effective management of the credit risk associated with these borrowers, from their introduction into the fund until full repayment of their loans. The successful candidate will serve as a key contact and representative for the group in the East African region and must be capable of managing office operations as needed.

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Credit Analysis:
  • Critically analyze a client’s business upfront and on an ongoing basis ensuring the Credit Risk is understood, monitored, and managed.
  • Rate clients through rating model and analyze & comment on financial statements.
  • Prepare and be primarily responsible for credit applications with input from originators.
  • Analyze, interpret & interrogate financial models and check assumptions to ensure appropriate models are presented to the Committee for approval.
  • Client visits upon onboarding and full independent credit analysis for each new transaction.
  • Evaluate and monitor collateral and other credit risk mitigations.
  • Presentation to Riparian Credit Committee and other company Committees where appropriate.
  • Manage all credit related matters on a portfolio of clients from pre-approval to disbursement to post trade disbursement monitoring.
  • Manage portfolio of clients within an acceptable NPL ratio.
  • Perform annual reviews, quarterly one pager on high level risks and issues, challenge credit applications, stress test, collateral evaluation & monitoring, payment behavior & history.

  • Systematic review of financials at borrower level. Monthly/quarterly frequency with review in appropriate committee (at least for part of D). Periodic review of Expected Credit Loss assumptions.
  • Timely identification of high-risk exposures for transfer to the Proactive Risk Management list. Develop stress testing framework.

 

  1. Country Risk Analysis:
  • Analyze trends and developments where the companies’ borrowers are and suggest mitigation strategies where necessary.
  • Active oversight of country developments (economic growth, political developments, upcoming elections).
  • Leverage existing S&P ratings, periodic one-pager on country development with clients’ exposures, level of comfort.
  • Monitor Country Risk Exposure and report aggregate credit exposure at country level.
  • Stress testing of credit exposure at country level across all borrowers within a country.
  • Report to appropriate committees on a regular basis with country overview.

 

  1. Credit Approvals:
  • Responsible for credit paper and taking deals through the credit process from origination to post close monitoring.
  • Pre-trade approvals – provide guidance on credit appetite and deal structuring before presentation to Credit Committee
  • Approve/escalate margin calls as appropriate.
  • Ensure deals are legally structured in accordance with credit conditions and approvals.
  • Approval of non-standard settlements and legal terms, escalation (e.g. longer cure period, longer close out, longer termination period). Determine appropriate LMT terms (limits monitoring, margin payments, termination). Legal & Credit to work together to reach satisfactory outcomes in legal agreements with terms impacting Credit.
  • Approval of collateral managers/monitors where required and maintain list of approved collateral managers.
  • Ensure relevant representation of industry experts for transactions as part of the Credit process (e.g. expertise in collateral management for particular commodities).
  • Ensure conditions are fully closed at or prior to deal closing.
  • Perform other ad-hoc tasks e.g. take minutes at Credit Committees, handle queries, report on the portfolio, etc.

  • Evaluation of the feasibility of infrastructure projects including the ability to construct and evaluate detailed cash flow projections using excel for project-finance type transactions

  • The position holder will primarily manage own portfolio of FI and Sovereign clients in the Anglophone West Africa region and assist the Senior Manager Trade Finance, FIs & Sovereigns in the structuring and execution of trade finance transactions as required. The job holder will also work closely with the AFTRAF team and ensure alignment and coordination when setting limits for FIs in order to satisfy the needs of both portfolios.
  • Prepare the marketing plan for Financial Institutions & Sovereigns derived from the Bank’s Strategic Plan.
  • Implement various strategies for entering various trade finance markets in Africa.
  • Coordinate with trade finance, trade services and client coverage teams, together with other business units to acquire new trade clients by matching Afreximbank credit appetite with a healthy credit risk level.
  • Assess the transactions, which are eligible under the Bank’s Policies, (i) design the suitable structured transactions for banks, corporates and Sovereigns for and (ii) identification of risks related to these transactions, with mitigations factors.
  • Structuring transactions, developing and negotiating term sheets to be shared with the Deal Team before sending to the customer for execution.
  • Lead pitches for new business alongside Client Relations and respond to RFPs from FIs as applicable.
  • Acquire new clients and maximize utilization of approved limits in line with Afreximbank’s business strategy, achieve revenue targets and trade asset targets and push for trade utilization on target amounts.
  • Participate in the preparation of annual business development plans, covering all aspects of international trade finance.
  • Developing, marketing and managing Afreximbank’s programmes and facilities as applicable to job holder’s portfolio.
  • Design schemes and roadshows for establishing market presence with emphasis on broadening the geographic scope of the Bank’s activities.
  • Manage own trade finance portfolio, from the process of origination, credit approval and contracting to ensure that the process is finalised within optimal time.
  • Review / Prepare the Pre-Assessment Memo (PAM) of transactions and in liaison with CLRE present to the Pre-Assessment Committee (PAC) for approval.
  • Address issues raised by the PAC’s members on the proposed transaction before any submission to the Credit Assessment (CRAS) Department for consideration Committee (CRECO).
  • Supporting the credit department with information to facilitate the credit process and the legal department in the facilitation of transaction documentation.
  • In line with the above, liaise with the Banking Operations department to ensure that once approval is obtained, disbursement is done within the required timelines and that the portfolio is managed according to the terms of the agreement and to the client’s satisfaction, until expiry of the same.
  • Develop relationships with major financial institutions operating in the trade finance market in Africa, including international banks, African financial institutions (trade finance intermediaries) and corporates.
  • Be a centre of product expertise and point of contact within the bank.

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • First and Postgraduate degrees in Business Administration, Banking or Finance from a recognized University.

  • Coordinates with hotels/restaurants on catering arrangements during events as program dictates including selection of suitable restaurants and menus that are fit for occasion and guests.  Coordinating with host country counterparts regularly ensuring bank requirements are met. 
  • Coordinating with finance/sales departments at hotels/restaurants to finalize payments, in parallel coordination with Afreximbank finance department to ensure payments are being conducted on timely basis.  Review of all bills and receipts to ensure all in order and approves final bill of entire event. 
  • Attends to any inquiries from any vendor or guest in relation to above services.
  • Calculate budgets related to events logistics; in addition to compilation of COEV Department Budget
  • Supports virtual events in the field of digital coordination and logistics.  This entails close coordination with retained agency, bank departments, staff, guests, speakers engagement, gift procurement, and assistance in coordination and scheduling of pre-event dry runs.  This also includes coordination of invitation, choice of platforms, messaging, recording, edits, videos review, etc.
